Askew, Awry, Aslant?

I come into work this morning, and one of my coworkers says, "Marcia, your hair is a little askew today."

"Askew?" I ask, reaching up to try and pat down any fly-aways.

"It's not bad," she replies, "just a bit askew."

What does this mean?

you had that fresh from outside, wind-blown look.

It meant that your hair was in a bit of disarray but not in a bad way.

You do not want Crystal Gale hair. Jeez.

if it was askew, but not in a bad way, perhaps you should consider going askew more often... just to keep them on their toes.

I was about to askew the same question.

A bit like akimbo, yet not.

From your co-worker's choice of words, I sense she was being quite nice about it. Sort of like a friend who gently tells you you've got wax coming out of your ear - all without making you feel embarrassed.

I've always loved that word. It rolls off the tongue quite nicely. Askew....ahhh.
