I Love My Job

Today I discovered that it's just as easy for me to ignore the message light on my work phone as it is to ignore the little message icon on my cell phone.

And that it takes 7 minutes for my space heater at work to blow the power strip (and yes, the space heater has it's own special power strip). Now, I could keep the space heater on "low wattage" and never blow the power strip... but... then my work would have to not keep the temperature at approximately 32 degrees in the middle of winter.

ooooh, do you work in an old building? The year I worked, it was in this really old building that only had baseboard heat, but it would always get turned off where I sat. One day it was so damn cold that I put my hat and scarf and coat on. Yeah that was really fun, especially since I was the receptionist--at least people chuckled when they came in and saw me all bundled up.

Back in the younger days of lizzle-hood, I attended school in some OLD school buildings, and they were ALWAYS cold... So cold that you could see your breath in the auditorium in the winter! And yet, for some reason the teachers would always get super pissed off when I wanted to wear my gloves in calculus, history, or english...

As for ignoring the messages, yeah, you can do it, but you might want to get around to responding to them some time before you rack up 22 messages... I did that once!

Sounds like my building too. I've taken to wearing a fleece lining under everything I wear in the winter now.

I would say I miss the South--OK, I do--but the opposite was true in the summer: the schools would get so hot that we would all huddle by the air conditioner for the five minutes before class started, blasting the air at the highest temp possible. As soon as the bell rang, however, county policy mandated that we had to return the air to the lowest setting, as long as it didn't go over 90 degrees in the classroom. If it did, we could turn it up a notch.

The building isn't that old, but... If we complain to facilities that it's too cold, they'll check the thermometer and say that everything's within acceptable levels. Never mind that my entire department was literally wearing coats and running (illegal) heaters yesterday...

I work in an old building. It's nice that I have a window in my office, but that's where all the heat escapes too. I have a space heater under my desk and i'm just waiting to blow a fuse in the office.

I got the maintenance guy to set up my cube so that I can plug my heater into an outlet that isn't connected to anything else. He may have been motivated to do this by our needing him to come reset everything a few times...due to my personal little heater.

But I have to have it! All the time. I have to hide it at night so it won't get confiscated.

Space heaters are the worst. I can't have any other things plugged in while it's on or I wind up making 237684646 tips to the fuse box.

This is why in the winter I only watch 15 minutes of TV shows.
