My Birthday!!

It's tradition on my birthday for there to be daffodils.

When I was little, and I saw my brother's birthday (Oct 13) then Thanksgiving, then Halloween, then Christmas, then New Year's, then my sister's birthday (Jan 15)... and my mom would tell me that the next big event was my birthday. Which it was... 2.5 months later.

So my mother told me that when the daffodils bloomed in our yard, it was time for my birthday again.

And, uncannily, my the daffodils bloomed on my birthday on or before every year in my yard at least until high school - at which point my mom began buying (much appreciated) daffodils when they didn't yet exist in our part of Colorado.

This tradition continued thru college, and the past few years, when I got daffodils for every birthday from my mother.

So, as you can imagine, I was shocked when my mother's bouquet arrived and consisted of yellow tulips, Gerber daisies, and irises. But my older sister followed tradition, and on my birthday, presended me with almost 2 dozen daffodils that bloomed on the 24th and made me so happy.

And for my birthday, which for the only time in my life was actually Easter (unless I live to be 228 years old - that's the next time Easter is March 23rd), I threw a big party for 1o best friends and relatives. And remember, my favorite thing in the world is cooking and parties...

I made a) a large ham baked with coke (cocacola and not um, narcotics), and basted with a cherry jam glaze,
b) roasted potatoes
c) peas
d) asparagus tart (from YumSugar the easy version)
e) petit pain au chocolat (from, again, YumSugar) which you should make - 2 minutes of actual work and a fabulous, delicious, right out of the oven desserts.

Also, there was wine. And if you want to make any of these items, remember to cheers me once. I'll feel it. And totally appreciate it.

Happy (late) Birthday! The flowers are beautiful. I just saw a recipe for a tart in a Costco book. I'll have to try now...
