First, how cool is the glass flower fountain in the lobby of the building where we had the ball? There was water coming up from below and sprinkling down on top of them. Gorgeous.
And on to the festivities. I got all dolled up in a fabulous turquoise dress, showing off a lot of leg. I managed to keep my hair curly for about 2 hours, which, frankly, is a record. Unfortunately, a lot of those two hours was while I was drinking champagne at the preparty. But really, who can complain about that? Champagne + cheese + friends + tuxes and fancy dresses = damn fun.
And here I am being all artsy with my accessories. I really like the artsy.
During dinner at the ball, there was an unusual number of professors at my table, and I managed to both entertain AND not make a fool of myself. Which generally is my goal for most situations.
The craziness came later, with the dancing and the drinking and the carrying on.
The turquoise dress is mine, and those lovely gold shoes completely tore up my heels. I was going to take a picture of that, but then I remembered - no one likes pictures of bloody grossness.
And I know that you all like to see the hot shoes that I see, so here: the best tux shoes I've seen in a long time.
And thanks so much to Steph for organizing the entire thing! Especially for getting Bissenger's Chocolates for all of us!

Love the dress and accessories, Mar-see-ah! :-) A girl should always know how to accessorise...
..and what a handsome pair of tux shoes you are married to :-D
Glad you had such a wonderful time, sweetheart :-)

Thanks, CQ! I love accessorizing more than life. Remember the line from Steel Magnolias? "The only thing that separates us from the animals is our ability to accessorize!" And the best thing? I didn't lose my earrings like I thought I might have!
And, while those tux shoes are damn handsome, I'm not married to them. I just hang out with them a lot...
Oh, honey, it looks like you had a wonderful time! I love formal events . . . I actually just had to give away three formal dresses because I don't have anywhere to wear them anymore. It made me really sad.
I'm glad you have a place to wear them to :-)
I gotta say, those shoes are spiffy.
PS - Hooray for leg shots.
In fact, they are the only unmarried legs in the picture.
It sounds like a wonderfully dazzling evening. What a fairy tale to re-write. . . a Cinderella who actually throws her magical slippers away because they hurt her feet. This could be a definite hit.
Came by way of Michele!
Love your header!!
Mary, mom to many
I'm a sucker for a pair of pretty shoes! And those, my dear, are very pretty shoes. Michele sent me.
That pretty flower sculpture/water feature you saw looks like the work of artist Dave Chihuly. Glad you had a fab time!
I love the flowers!
And your dress looks fab.... from what I can tell....
How did your friend get her legs so shiny?! She looks like a movie star.
I heart turquoise dresses.
I have lots of secrets to keeping my legs shiny. I used to be a porn star.
Sigh. That sounds like my absolute favourite combination of everything on earth:
1. Getting dressed up
2. Wearing shiny jewellery
3. Champagne
4. Cheese
5. Intelligent conversation
6. Not falling down
7. Chocolate
