A Fetching Idea

It's always good to have friends in high places. Or friends who are going to be in high places, and bring me with them to said high places. As long as this high place is internet fame and riches.

As many of you know, I went to college with Kat. And if you don't read her blog, you should. BUT. She came up with a fabulous idea: Let's start an online magazine called Fetch "Like Cosmo, but with a sense of humor. So I guess more like Glamour. Only more inappropriate." You can read about her idea here, here, and here. There's important stuff in all of those links, especially in the third one where Kat calls me her deputy editor.

That's right, The Pink Shoe is moving up in the world. Frankly, it's cronyism, but I couldn't care less. (Just a crib sheet for those of you following along at home: Bush cronyism = bad, Kat cronyism = good.) I have editorial experience, I write a lot, and I can reject people when I know it's my job (let's keep my personal inability to say "no" to anyone out of this!).

So we're gathering a whole stable of writers with wit, intelligence, good grammar, and a willingness to work for free, at least until the cash cow that is the internet smiles upon us. Although we've already gotten more than 100 emails, we're still going through them and looking for those perfect people that are not only going to write for Fetch, they're going to be our new best friends.

Obviously, there's more info on Kat's site on how to send us information. And we do want writing samples (that express the tone and subject matter of the column or feature articles that you would want to write for Fetch) and a resume.

And we also need READERS. Or, at this point, potential readers as there isn't anything to read yet. No need to send us a writing sample and resume for that one, just keep reading my blog and Kat's to keep those reading skills sharp.

So - do you want permanent writers? Or more freelancy writers? Right now I don't even have time to sleep, but in a month or so I will - and I'll super good at book reviews. And I'm planning on writing book reviews for my blog (when I'm not working 45 hours a week and reading up to 16 books a week FOR ONE CLASS [no, I am not joking. There is a blog entry in my head - unfortunately I don't have time for writing blog entries right now. GRRR!]), and it might be fun for me to send my reviews to Fetch so you could accept or reject them before I put them up on my own blog! Yay? I should probably get ahold of Kat about this. And she's probably swamped. And so I'll probably do something along the lines of getting ahold of her about this when I figure out if I ever will have any actual time again. Ever. We'll see.
