20 Years of Calvin and Hobbes

Today, back in 1985, Calvin and Hobbes debuted. And ran for 10 years before Bill Watterson decided to walk away when the strip was at its peak.

In honor of my new bangs, I'm posting one of Calvin's famous 1 liners...

My favorites are the snowman strips. I always wanted to build snowmen on the scale the Calvin did!

Your challenge: Describe, using only words, your favorite Calvin and Hobbes strip. In the comments. For my amusement.

I like the ones where Calvin tells his Dad that the polls show his ratings are going down and what he can do to fix it.

John and I were discussing how hysterical the snowmen strips always were, especially those involving mangled snow-families strewn about in various stages of agony and horror. That, and last week the Chicago Tribune repeated one where Calvin fought a suds-monster in the tub and eventually defeated it. It was great.

One word: Calvinball.

I like a lot of the C & H strips... what I hate are those little stickers with Calvin peeing on assorted things... I never saw him do that in the comic strip!

God I loved Calvin and Hobbes. I was always a fan of the STUPENDOUS MAN and the CALVIN BALL strips because they were just like the zany things I did when I was a kid. I stopped reading the comics after calvin left.

I'm with you, Liz--WTF? And if it's a Chevy truck the decal has him peeing on a Ford truck and vice versa.

other kids' games are all such a bore!
They've gotta have rules and they gotta keep score!
Calvinball is better by far!
It's never the same! It's always bizarre!
You don't need a teem or a referee!
You know that it's great, cause it's named after me!

::applause::

I like the one where Calvin rubs his face in Hobbes' tummy and then he gets mauled by Hobbes, but he concludes that it was worth it.

Reminds me so much of my temptation to give le Aviator raspberries. Hee hee.

I also enjoy the snowmen-- and Calvin's struggles with Mrs. Wormwood.

BUT-- Do any of you lot remember thinking Calvin's mom was a man for awhile!?? I thought he had two dads for a time...

(I wish there was a nice, lovely way to subscribe to threads like this, so I could be notified of responses, and so could others... am I much mistaken!??)

Yes, and I hate those stickers of Calvin peeing on things, too.

I also don't like the ones where he's praying in front of a cross.

Out of hand, man. He's a CARRRRTOOON!!!!

(With the cutest tiger ever!!!)

I also love the one where Calvin complains to Hobbes about having to grow up, and he asks Hobbes why tigers don't ever have to be anything but tigers.

Then Hobbes says "We're tigers. No room for improvement."

I always loved the one where Calvin's dad told him to get out of the house and go play in the snow, and Calvin responded by making protest snowmen next to the driveway. I remember signs like "Egad! Bad dad!" and the like. Goooood stuff.

E-liz mentioned a great one, Sarahreznor's choice also.

My favorite was the one where the Dad explained to Calvin many of the little known facts of science and the world. Little known, of course, because he was making it up as he went along--and in the last frame his wife caught him!

Calvin taking a bath in the toilet is classic.
I'm also a big fan of the philosophical conversations while barreling down the hill in a Radio Flyer.
That, and for all of elementary school, my alter-ego was Spaceman Spiff. My friend and I would draw Spiff on everything.
