Why didn't anyone tell me that there were two Chinese places within 15 blocks of me (I'm being vague, I don't want you stalkers finding me) that serve FREE WINE when you eat there.
Did you hear me, people? FREE. WINE.
I was with 3 other people, and we walk in, sit down, and they rush over with two carafes of box-wine Chablis.
Which were refilled before they were even half empty. Until we told them to stop, waaaaaaaay after we finished eating and had refused dessert.
So, four people, 2 soups, some spring rolls, and three entrees, to share. Oh, and all the wine we can drink. And the food was not bad at all. In fact, it was good. (These places, I should probably mention, are The Cottage, at 77 and Amsterdam, and the original that we went to, The Silk Road Palace, at 81 and Amsterdam.)
Guess how much we spent?
Seriously.
$36. And we left almost $50 because we were so happy. And also, drunk.

Chinese restaurants rock my world.
Aw, man. Screw Saint Louis.
Marcia,
I am so glad that you have discovered the Cottage. I have had many happy, happy times there :) I guess I some point they weighed the cost of improving the quality of their food against the cost of free cheap wine, and the latter won out. I thank them for it :) It may be the cheapest bill you can ring up for getting tipsy and full on the entire island...
The real question is how do you feel this morning? That's good marketing on their part.
Um, that's WAY better than buy one get one free margarita night. Those restaurant owners better get on it.
My favorite phrase in the English language. "Free Wine"
Free wine -- glorious! But were you too drunk to watch Project Runway?
Basically and "_____ Cottage" places in NYC serve free wine with your meal. Unlimited. (Mind you, it's crappy house wine)
Freshman year at Columbia, we used to go to one around the corner and drink for 3 hours or so. Keep ordering small appetizers as they try to kick us out.
There was also another place on 23rd and 3rd that served free beer. We used to play quarters in there until they kicked us out. They then shut down a couple months later. I guess they didn't realize that when you offer free beer by NYU area, it's going to create a ruckus!
I think that's the greatest story I've ever read. New York is a grand, mythical place after all!
SHUT UP.
I am so moving in with you guys.
How did the interview go? I had to tell you that I had a blast with you... and will be posting about it as soon as I get my act together! The purse? Loving the impractical sassiness.
Wait. Wait a second. Did I read you correctly? Free wine? Box smox, it was free. I love free stuff. And I love liquor. You are so lucky.
You only left 50 that is only a 14 dollar tip that isn't even 20% next time consider what you drank and tip on that as well.
Anonymous, um, 14 on a $36 bill is almost 40%. Check your math and don't be an asshole next time.
